If I Could Change One Thing About Myself...

If I Could Change One Thing About Myself....

Self-Improvement

Change something about yourself by adding something to your life.  New Year's Resolutions compel us to look at our lives and do something different.  We inspire each other to do better and be better.  Speaking of being, be in the 8% - that's the percentage of people who keep their New Year's Resolutions.

Finances

Mr. Ramsey will be the first one to give a different perspective to debt: Roughly paraphrased: Credit shows you are playing tiddlywinks with the banks.

Being debt-free is scary, at first.  It's like going through withdrawal, but with your finances.  Using Dave Ramsey's Baby Steps plan takes courage.  The realization of your finances can sometimes be too much to face.  As with any new habit, it takes a lot of soul-searching to get you through the hard road to achieving a goal - in this case, being debt-free.

Weight Loss

"Portions Master uses preset portion sizes for protein, carbohydrates, and greens according to your goal weight. Select your goal weight, fill in the portions with your favorite foods, and use the plate for three meals per day."
Aim to eat something new each week.

Start a Hobby.

There is scientific evidence that proves that having a hobby improves mental health and overall well-being.  Here are some ideas for hobbies to consider this year:
(From top left, clockwise):

1. Hand write letters to loved ones.  The card is something that can be treasured forever.  Putting pen to paper allows thoughts to be processed and shared in a way that texts, emails, chats and commenting just do not.

2. Read books.  Reading increases language skills and comprehension.  It also improves brain connectivity, preventing cognitive decline that comes with age.  Join a book club to add a social aspect, whether it's online or in person.

3. Exercise is a great hobby and life skill to have.  To anyone that has ever spent any time exercising knows that burpees, while good for you, are absolute torture!  Bondi Band's headband sums it up nicely.  Make it easier on yourself and take this 30-day Burpee Challenge.  Nothing like kicking your own doubts in the assets to keep you going!  Watch this video by Well + Good for more details about how to do a burpee and variations of it.  For more challenges, visit Livestrong's Challenges page.  Let's do this.

4. Speaking of exercise, go outside.  Find your closest kayaking spot and get moving  Kayaking builds endurance, in cardiovascular and upper body strength, while maintaining core stability.  Lincoln has been manufacturing kayaks since 1959!  That would certainly land them in the pioneering category of expertise.

Changing is hard.  The journey to change is hard.

Is it easier to be who you are right now, or easier to get to be the person you want to be?  You choose.
