Welcome back to another Under $20 Tuesday. Hurricane season began on May 15 in the Pacific and begins on June 1 in the Atlantic.

Whether you are a natural disaster veteran or a newbie, being prepared is imperative.

An example of that is Hurricane Ian 2022. At the last minute, Hurricane Ian turned slightly further south than it was projected to make landfall in Florida.

The difference was less than 100 miles.

Even though the damage would have been worse in the more densely populated Tampa Bay area, the damage was no less devastating and historic, to say the least.

With that in mind, here are some items that are included in an emergency supplies kit. Each item is also less than $20 and made in the USA.

1. Whistle

A whistle is a great little tool to have, not just for impending natural disasters. If you are stranded, the whistle signals for help for search and rescue teams.

2. Matches

Update: As of 6/2024, the Zip Top Reusable Bag's price is $10.

In case of emergency and power outage, matches serve many purposes. Storing the matches in a waterproof container or baggie helps to protect them from getting wet or ruined.

3. Feminine Hygiene

via Amazon

It is always important to keep feminine hygiene products on-hand. This is no more important than when preparing for an emergency, such as a hurricane.

If a hurricane causes the shutdown of stores and delivery services, accessing items like this may become precarious. Keep an extra stash and put your mind at ease, at least in this case.

4. Personal Hygiene

Personal hygiene items are to be included in your checklist for storm prep. Even if you stay in your home, be aware of how long stores and services to your home may potentially be unavailable to you.

Listed above are some personal hygiene items to stock up on, or pack in case of evacuation. Items include toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, and hairbrush.

Multi-use wipes and dry shampoo will become handy to freshen yourself up, in case a shower is not an option.

5. Books, Games and Puzzles Oh My!

via Amazon

There is nothing like a power outage to inspire a family game night. When you know there is a strong possibility of a power outage, having entertainment, especially for the kiddos, helps pass the time.....and stress.

Some things to stock up on are books, puzzles, games, paper and pencils, and, of course, imagination.

Conclusion

Finding supplies for emergency preparation that are made in the USA may pose a challenge, but with challenge comes change.

How will YOU be part of the change?

Always remember: Nobody appreciates you and your business more than the people behind the made in the USA name!
